Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Duane Smith

This is my 1st year teaching at Gainesville High School. I am teaching Biology, Survey of Life and Health Sciences, and Environmental Science.   I am originally from Missouri and attended the University of Missouri - Columbia.  Go TIGERS!!!

My undergraduate degree was in Biological Sciences (Microbiology) and my graduate degree was in Veterinary Microbiology.  I also took several courses in Food Science at the College of Agriculture.

Teaching is a 2nd career for me.  Previously, I worked in a variety of positions in the pharmaceutical industry and worked in various states and cities, including Chicago and New York City.

I started my teaching career in 2012 at Metropolitan Community College of Kansas City (teaching Microbiology and Anatomy & Physiology).  My first high school teaching job was at the high school that I attended as a student, Central High School in St. Joseph, MO.  Growing up, I loved playing baseball and currently enjoy short bike rides and occasional kayaking and golf.

My wife and I just moved to Mountain Home, Ar.  My wife attended the University of Kansas, so we have conflicting allegiances.  Our combined family includes five children who live in four different cities (Hollister, Mo, Kansas City, Mo, Lawrence, Ks and Milwaukee, WI).

I am excited about meeting the students, faculty and parents at Gainesville, HS.  Go Bulldogs!!!
